My Printed Work @ UMass

Below is a sampling of my printed work. These are mostly related to BCT program promotions, conference announcements, departmental posters or logos.

With all my digital work, it is always fun to create something that you can hold in your hands afterwards.

2023 – BCT Flyer Updates

This collection of flyers updates my 2019 redesign with more current information. Both versions now use the UMass maroon as a key color and feature views of the Olver Design Building as an underlay.

2019 (and newer) – BCT Poster Template

This poster template (career fair and major posters are shown here) uses the UMass maroon, BCT’s recognizable blue square, and an angled design that represents the angles of the Olver Design Building in which BCT is now housed.

2018 – BCT Logo Updates

Our program needed an updated logo that used the new UMass wordmark but continued our tradition of the blue square while also being recognizable on social media (i.e. in a square aspect ratio).

2012 – Holdsworth Hall Building Directory

With no room directory in our campus building and me teaching a Revit-based class, it just made sense to create a 3D model of Holdsworth Hall and use it to produce a colorful 3D cutaway room directory that is now displayed in both of our lobbies.

2011 – BCT and ECO Posters

These are promotional (and signage) posters for the hallways of Holdsworth Hall at UMass. One feature that I include more and more are QR codes, which allow for a convenient direct linkage between the printed item and online content.

2011 – NRC Program Flyers

Main Program Flyer:

Individual Concentration Flyers:

This set of seven flyers promotes another one of the undergraduate programs in the Department of Environmental Conservation: Natural Resources Conservation. This major has six very distinct concentrations, which required six individual concentration flyers in addition to a main summary flyer.

2010 – BCT Program Flyer

This is a flyer that we distribute on campus and to regional schools to promote our BCT program. The design is obviously based on architectural blueprints, which together with the collection of images illustrates our program’s focus. As an added gimmick, the flyer doubles as an architectural ruler. Quite handy in CAD class…

2009 – BCT Program Branding

With our program’s renaming from Building Materials and Wood Technology (BMATWT) to Building and Construction Technology (BCT), we were in need of a consistent graphical identity. Main elements are a blueprint-like background, a hand-sketched BCT logo and a good-looking, clean font (Frutiger). As an additional gimmick, I produced wood disks with our logo that have found good use as coasters.

2008 – Wood Structures Symposium Postcard

More information: Blog article

2007 – Wood Structures Symposium Flyer

This was the promotional flyer for our first Wood Structures Symposium, held at UMass. Beyond the usual organizational help, I produced the website and this flyer to announce the event. The flyer was meant to provide a forward-looking, inspiring presentation of what can be built in wood. The dynamic images and the clean presentation conveyed that well in my eyes.

2003 – FPS Northeast Meeting Flyer

In retrospect the design appears a bit “clunky” and compact. The reason for the white edges was that originally, we wanted to copy the flyers instead of printing them, which required that I respected paper margins. Ultimately, it got printed, though. It was a fun conference – we held it at a casino!
